The craze of women looking for sperm donors used to be a lifestyle of European women but this trend is gradually creeping into Ghana.
It has emerged that some married women, who have challenges in giving birth, are linking up with their former boyfriends to help them make their dreams come true.
Some of the men, who shared their stories on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Wednesday, said there is nothing wrong with it.
But, the ‘sperminators’, majority of whom are married, have decided to keep this venture a secret from their wives.
They explained that, donating sperm is a form of corporate social responsibility since God gave it to them freely.
A young man, who called into the programme, said his ex-girlfriend pleaded with him to donate his sperms to enable her have a child.
Though he is married with children, Kwame [pseudo name] said he saw it as a gesture to make his ex-girlfriend now married happy.
“I feel very sorry for her so when she told me; I gladly agreed to it,” he added.
Also, a married man of two, Kofi [pseudo name] revealed that, the women he donated to have all given birth and the children are now seven and three.
Kofi said he is now making good money out of the sperm donation after two of his donations were successful.
“I have two more to do and I’m making very good money. The first and second donations I made GH₵30,000 from it,” he noted.
However, Kofi said he was shocked when he met one of the children who had the exact birthmark he has around the ear.
“I met the child and his parents and I was introduced to him as an uncle. As I was playing with him, I found out he has a birthmark on his ear just like mine and my children also have a similar mark. I was very scared so I quickly gave him back to his mother,” he said.
