A policeman was chased by seven (7) armed robbers near Sampa in Brong-Ahafo Region for trying to help rescue traders from being robbed at gun point.

The police man, whose name has been withheld, told Adom News the robbers attacked and burnt his motorbike after he had attempted to save traders who were under attack.

“I saw about three or four cars parked on the highway. The drivers and passengers were lying on the ground. They were heading towards a market close-by so initially I thought an accident had occurred and the cadavers were being taken out the vehicles.

“The next thing I saw was a masked man from afar. I shouted at him and they (armed robbers) started firing at me”.

He continued that “trying to escape, I retaliated with series of gunshots too. They were about seven bodied men armed with AK-47 guns. They burnt my motor vehicle before speeding off with one of the passenger cars as an escape plan”.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Commander for Sampa, William Gyamfi has confirmed the incident to Adom News adding that, investigations have begun.
