Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has waded into the raging debate on government’s decision to construct a National Cathedral.

The MP has supported the construction of the cathedral, saying it will serve as a tourist attraction and help generate revenue when completed.

For him, one Muslims have a National Mosque, it is only natural that Christians have a similar structure built for them.

Mr Agyapong who was speaking on Adom TV’s morning show “Badwam” Tuesday says the project is one of the government’s priorities.

“I don’t have a problem with the cathedral. Why that is that Muslims find it prudent to come up with this huge edifice and some Christians oppose the cathedral. What is good about it is that the money will not be coming from the government,” he said.

“In fact, when it is put up, trust me, it will serve as a tourist attraction. Go to other African countries and you will understand what I mean. We should think about the long-term,” he stated.
