Headmasters of Senior High Schools in the Nkwanta South Municipality have met with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Awal Antwi, to discuss key challenges affecting their schools and measures to improve teaching and learning.
The meeting focused largely on security arrangements for final-year students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), particularly candidates from Nkwanta Senior High School, Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School, and Kyabobo Girls Senior High School.
Due to recent insecurity in the area, students from Kyabobo Girls SHS and Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School have been camped at Nkwanta SHS, prompting calls for enhanced protection before, during, and after the examinations.

The headmasters also raised concerns about inadequate infrastructure across the schools, noting that the lack of sufficient classrooms and dormitories is affecting academic work and the overall safety of both students and staff.
They emphasized that improved facilities would significantly enhance academic performance and create a more secure learning environment.
Mr Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School, appealed for the construction of a perimeter fence wall to safeguard students and school property.
He explained that the absence of a fence leaves the school exposed, referencing a tragic incident last year in which a student was reportedly killed by a stray bullet during a community conflict.
Responding to the concerns, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Awal Antwi, acknowledged the infrastructure deficits and commended the headmasters for sustaining quality education despite the challenges.
He assured them that the Assembly, in collaboration with relevant education agencies, would take steps to address the issues raised.
He also announced that government plans to provide boarding facilities for Community Day Senior High Schools, a development expected to benefit Nkwanta Community Senior High Technical School.
On security, the MCE assured that arrangements have been made with security agencies to protect candidates writing this year’s WASSCE throughout the examination period.
He also donated streetlights to the headmasters to enhance security at night.
The Municipal Coordinating Director for Nkwanta South Municipality, Mahama Musah, encouraged the headmasters to continue their efforts while government works to bridge the infrastructure gap.
