The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Daffour has condemned decision by some school heads to demand PTA dues from parents of fresh students going through admission process to enjoy the Free SHS policy.

Some parents have complained bitterly on how school heads are forcing students to pay the PTA dues before they are enrolled into the school.

But describing the situation as very worrying, Mr Daffour says it’s wrong for headmasters to engage in such acts when parents of these students are not yet members of the association.

“These head teachers are making big mistakes and should stop demanding PTA dues from these students. Parents of these children are not even members of the association and you charging them already. It’s wrong” he condemned.

Mr Daffour said that Senior High Schools with placement beyond capacity must ensure they create space for the excess students while government puts immediate measures in place to complete infrastructure started by the previous government.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the free SHS policy can only be enjoyed in public schools.

His comment is in response to calls by follows by owners of Private Senior high schools that some of the SHS students be placed in the private schools as well.

Kwadwo Oppong indicated that the call is a good one but the free SHS policy can only be enjoyed by students in public senior high schools for now.
