Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has urged mining companies in the country to donate massively to Major Mahama’s fund as a gesture for sacrificing his life against illegal mining also known as ‘Galamsey’.

According to him, the unfortunate death of the Major Maxwell Adams Mahama amounts to the quest to deploy him in the region to fight against illegal mining as such he expects them as a mining industry to pay him the greatest respect.

Nevertheless he added that, the unfortunate event should cause a drastic change in the attitudes to the Denkyira Boase residents.

According to Mr Jacobs, the slain soldier’s death will put an end to such cold lynching attacks that happen across the country.

“His death should change their attitudes. The multinational mining companies should contribute to the fund set up for him and have this Gentleman remembered. They can have his image on buses. One person that has helped in the crusade of Ghana’s crusade is Major Mahama…”

“It’s a lesson to the people of Denkyira Boase. God has opened their eyes. It’s unfortunate it has to be Major Mahama. He sacrificed his life for the sake of Ghana. His name shall be remembered anytime Galamsey comes up. If Ghana’s democracy is going well, one person that has helped us in all sectors is Major Mahama. May God keep his beloved soul…” he said.

Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region after they mistook him for an armed robber.

Videos and pictures of the gruesome murder of the later Major Maxwell Mahama went viral on social and mainstream media with the country condemning his ‘killers’.

More than forty persons including six females have so far being arrested in connection with the murder and have been remanded into prison custodies in Accra and Cape Coast.
