The Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has donated 2,529 reading books to the Asutifi South Education Directorate to improve the reading skills of primary and junior high school pupils in the district.
The books, presented at a ceremony in Nkaseim, will be distributed to all Primary Three and Junior High School One pupils in the district.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Dauda expressed concern over the declining performance of pupils in the English Language, attributing the trend to poor reading habits.
According to him, although many pupils excel in other subjects, their inability to read effectively continues to affect their performance in English.
He said the intervention forms part of efforts to strengthen literacy among schoolchildren and improve academic performance.
The MP disclosed that all 1,181 Primary Three pupils in the district would each receive a copy of the reading book titled Kofi and the Crow, while 1,348 Junior High School One pupils would each receive a copy of Kofi Annan.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Asutifi South Director of Education, James Frimpong Manso, commended the MP for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would help improve literacy levels among pupils.

He noted that reading remains the foundation of academic success and expressed confidence that the books would enhance pupils’ reading abilities and improve their performance across all subjects.
Mr. Manso also assured that teachers would be encouraged to make effective use of the books to ensure pupils derive maximum benefit from them.
Speaking on behalf of the District Chief Executive, the Presiding Member of the Asutifi South District Assembly, Alhassan Mohammed, thanked the MP for his continued investment in education.
He said the donation demonstrates Mr. Dauda’s commitment to improving educational outcomes and supporting the development of future generations in the district.
