The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has launched a special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine in honour of the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
The publication, unveiled during a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, celebrates the life and legacy of Dr Omane Boamah, highlighting his leadership, reforms and contributions to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces.
The launch formed part of activities marking the first anniversary of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Dr Omane Boamah and seven others while on official duty.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ato Forson said the commemorative edition would serve as a lasting record of the late minister’s service and provide valuable reference material for future military leaders, public servants, researchers and Ghanaians seeking to understand his contributions to national development.
He said the publication captures Dr Omane Boamah’s tenure at the Ministry of Defence, his leadership style and the values that guided his public service.
“Your Excellency, with profound respect and immense pride, I hereby declare the special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine, dedicated to the enduring legacy of the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, duly launched,” he said.
Dr Ato Forson described the occasion as more than a memorial, saying it was a national affirmation of a life devoted to service, integrity and patriotism.
He stressed that the late Defence Minister’s legacy should inspire current and future generations of public servants.
“The true measure of a public officer is not the position one occupies, but the lasting impact one leaves on the nation,” he said.
According to the Acting Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah championed professionalism, discipline and accountability within the Ghana Armed Forces while pursuing reforms that enhanced the military’s operational readiness.
He also commended the late minister’s commitment to improving the welfare of veterans and strengthening collaboration between the military and civilian institutions to promote national security.
Dr Ato Forson said the greatest tribute to Dr Omane Boamah would not be the cenotaph or commemorative publication alone, but the collective commitment of Ghanaians to uphold the principles he embodied, including integrity, humility, professionalism, accountability and selfless service.
As part of the ceremony, the Ministry of Defence also unveiled a cenotaph in memory of Dr Omane Boamah.
The monument was constructed with support from FG Global Company Limited at no cost to the state as a lasting tribute to the late minister’s service and sacrifice to the nation.
