Striker Asamoah Gyan is most likely to rewrite history as he seek out to equal the record of former Ghana international Abedi Pele at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Soccer Maestro, Pele is the only Ghanaian footballer to have represented the Black Stars of Ghana at six different Africa Cup of Nations competitions.

The ex-captain of the Black Stars made his debut at age 17 in 1982 and helped the squad win their latter laurel in Libya.

Though 1984, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998 produced no glories for Ghana and the Black Stars, the one-time UEFA Champions League winner still showcased exceptional talent at the African Football Festival in Ivory Coast, Senegal, Tunisia, South Africa and Burkina Faso respectively.

This historic feet, Al Alhi attacker, Asamoah Gyan is bound to equal provided he lines up for the Black Stars in the AFCON tournament in Gabon.

Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with over 90 goals to his credit will be making his sixth consecutive appearance at the Nations Cup having actively participated and massively contributed in the previous five editions in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

The former Sunderland star will also be hoping to lead Ghana to the competition after the team narrowly missed out on the trophy in the last edition held in Equatorial Guinea.

As a way of ending the trophy drought in Ghana, the former Udinese talisman and captain of the Black Stars, hopes to lead his charges to lift the much sought after fifth Nations Cup title.
