The Anum Traditional Area in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region is set to host the 2026 Guan Congress, marking the return of the prestigious gathering to the area after three decades.
Traditional leaders, members of Guan communities from across Ghana, cultural groups and residents gathered at Anum for the official media launch of the event, which seeks to promote unity, preserve Guan heritage and drive sustainable development among Guan communities nationwide.
The colourful launch was held under the theme, “Harmonising Resources in Guan Communities for Inclusive and Sustainable Development,” and showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Guan people while officially unveiling plans for the three-day congress scheduled for August 14 to 16, 2026, at the Anum Palace Grounds.
Speaking at the launch, the National President of the Guan Congress and Ankobeahene of Larteh Ahenease, Enyineh Gyadu Nkansah III, said the event would provide a platform to unite Guan communities and harness their collective resources for development.
According to him, the congress will also help reconnect people of Guan ancestry with their cultural roots and strengthen ties among Guan communities spread across the Savannah, Oti, Central, Western, Eastern and Greater Accra regions.
He stressed that the gathering presents an opportunity for Guan communities to identify their strengths, pool resources and collaborate towards sustainable development.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Akyempemhene of the Anum Traditional Area, Berima Dr. Obeng Dompreh, described the congress as an important platform for fostering unity and development among Guan communities across the country.
He noted that the event will feature conferences, youth engagement sessions and development-focused discussions aimed at finding solutions to challenges confronting Guan communities.

Meanwhile, the Omanhene of the Anum Traditional Area, Okusiako Brempong Kumi Sasraku VIII, expressed optimism that the congress would strengthen bonds among Guan communities and help mobilise resources for development.
He said the event would also serve as an avenue for people of Guan descent to reconnect with their heritage and urged young people in Guan communities to take advantage of the congress to learn more about their culture and traditions.
