National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant Prof. Joshua Alabi has gotten his first major endorsement for the position ahead of next year’s contest.
Member of Parliament for Keta, Richard Quarshigah, has thrown his weight behind the candidature of the 59-year-old academic describing him as a social development oriented person who has Ghana at heart.
“He has the tenacity and capacity to deal with issues and is so much socially oriented. I find in him a very competent and capable personality.
“So if he wants to become the president of Ghana and I have no hesitation whatsoever than to lend him my support,” the former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC told Joy News.
Mr Quarshigah is convinced the work Prof. Alabi did in turning the Institute of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) into a university is evidence he has the qualities of a good leader.

“Anybody who has such abilities has the capacity to transform this nation…when he files I will throw my support behind him,” he stated.
Prof. Alabi served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) from 2012 to 2016, after serving as the Rector from 2009 to 2012.
He previously served as NDC MP for Krowor between 1997 and 2011 and also worked as Minister for the Greater Accra and Northern Regions during the Rawlings administration.
Prof. Alabi declared his intention to contest the position early this year as other high profile party members also declared their interest.
They include former President John Mahama, former Trades Minister Ekow Spio Garbrah; former Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority Sylvester Mensah; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and MP for Cape Coast South Kweku Rickets Hagan.
According to Mr Quarshigah, Prof. Joshua Alabi enjoys widespread support among the minority in parliament.
“He is liked by very many members on our side….they need to be bold and declare it,” he said.

  1. This is a crucial time it’s not trial leave the incumbent flagship bearer His Excellency J.D Mahamma alone to face NPP otherwise NDC and Ghana will face another defeat. The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know.
