The Krontihene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh II, has called on traditional authorities and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to intensify efforts in enforcing sanitation laws to tackle indiscriminate waste disposal.

He said collaboration between chiefs and local authorities is crucial in promoting environmental cleanliness and ensuring that sanitation offenders are held accountable.

The Krontihene made the call during a clean-up exercise organised by the Birim Central Municipal Assembly in Akyem Oda to promote good sanitation practices among residents.

The exercise saw residents sweeping streets, weeding public spaces, desilting choked gutters and properly disposing of refuse.

Speaking to Adom News, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh II urged chiefs to support the enforcement of sanitation regulations by ensuring that persons who violate sanitation laws are sanctioned appropriately.

He stressed that strict enforcement of the laws would help instil discipline, protect public health and encourage residents to take responsibility for keeping their communities clean.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Kusi Brako, has called for the reinstatement of sanitation officers to help enforce sanitation by-laws under the government’s Clean Ghana Agenda.

According to him, bringing back sanitation officers would strengthen monitoring, restore discipline in public spaces and serve as a deterrent to people who engage in unsanitary practices.

He said the move would complement ongoing efforts to maintain cleaner and healthier communities in line with the government’s sanitation objectives.
