The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is set to receive 300 Ghanaian teachers this year as part of a new education cooperation agreement between the two countries.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development after representing President John Dramani Mahama at The Bahamas’ 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the agreement follows bilateral discussions between Ghana and Bahamian authorities and will mark the first phase of expanded cooperation in the education sector.

He said the initiative is expected to open new opportunities for Ghanaian professionals beyond the health sector, where Ghanaian nurses have already established a strong reputation under similar arrangements.

The Foreign Affairs Minister noted that Bahamian authorities have expressed admiration for the work ethic of Ghanaian nurses serving in the country, a factor he believes has helped strengthen confidence in Ghanaian professionals.

The deployment of the teachers forms part of efforts to deepen labour mobility between the two nations and create more international opportunities for Ghanaian workers.

Mr Ablakwa also highlighted the historical and ancestral ties between Ghana and The Bahamas, noting that the relationship between the two countries continues to grow through strategic partnerships.

He said Ghana remains committed to pursuing diplomatic engagements that deliver direct benefits to citizens.
