The family of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has revealed that former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Adwoa Safo, was the sole signatory to all mortuary documents, a situation that has left them unable to access their relative’s body despite repeated efforts.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the Apostle’s family, expressed deep frustration over the ongoing standoff.

“Our daughter Adwoa Safo was the signatory to all documents before he was put at transition. We have been pushing the transition people to let us see the body, but to no avail. They are asking that Adwoa Safo come, and she is also not willing,” Dr. Kissi said.

He emphasised that the family remain in charge of all arrangements according to Ghanaian custom, and not the children.

“Per our customs, the family plans and leads the family, not the children,” Dr. Kissi noted. “When Rawlings died, we saw it was the family in charge, not his children or Zanetor. Likewise, when his wife died too. But in our case, you are seeing the children.”

Dr. Kissi made it clear that no funeral date has been fixed by the family, particularly dismissing June 30th.

“The family has not fixed any funeral for the 30th,” he stated. “Ghanaians will hear from us at the right time, although I can’t publicly disclose what the family is going to do.”

The family’s position underscores a serious internal dispute: because Adwoa Safo remains the authorised signatory for the mortuary documents, the wider family has been denied access to the body of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, delaying their ability to begin proper funeral rites.
