An Accra High Court has adjourned to June 11, 2026, to rule on a motion filed by Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi in his ongoing effort to challenge a United States extradition request.

The socialite, popularly known as Abu Trica, appeared before the court on June 2 with his legal team and spouse, where his lawyers moved a motion seeking permission to file a supplementary affidavit in support of his application.

The application is part of a certiorari action filed by his lawyers seeking to quash a ruling by the Gbese District Court, which authorized his extradition to the United States.

Abu Trica is wanted by US authorities in connection with allegations of wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors in the United States claim he was linked to a romance scam network accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than $8 million.

His legal team is challenging the basis of the extradition proceedings and is seeking to overturn the lower court’s decision.

Counsel also urged the court to determine the matter based on the evidence already before it, as well as the facts and circumstances surrounding the application before delivering its ruling.

Following arguments by counsel, the High Court adjourned the matter to June 11, when it is expected to deliver its ruling on the motion and determine the next steps in the case.

The outcome of the ruling could significantly influence the progress of extradition proceedings against the socialite.
