A dramatic scene unfolded at the Ofaakor Circuit Court in Kasoa on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as two suspects standing trial in an alleged human trafficking case collapsed during proceedings, causing a brief disruption in court.
The first suspect reportedly lost consciousness while the prosecution was presenting its case. Moments later, a second suspect also collapsed after the court announced its decision to remand all accused persons into custody.
The six accused persons — Janet Larbie, Mary Dotse, Yvonne Twumasi, Sikena Umar, Grace Afriyie, and Regina Agyeiwaa — are facing allegations in connection with an alleged human trafficking operation involving five children.
According to the prosecution, three of the children are alive while two have died. The allegations remain before the court and have not yet been proven.
Lawyers for the accused persons pleaded with the court to grant their clients bail pending trial. However, the Court declined the application and ordered that all six accused persons be remanded into custody.
The case has been adjourned to June 8, 2026, for further hearing.
During proceedings, Senior Prosecutor ASP Thomas Sarfo disclosed that additional witnesses had come forward to assist with ongoing investigations.
The new witnesses include a mortuary staff member at Trust Mother and Child Hospital and the husband of one of the accused persons.
According to the prosecution, their testimonies are expected to play a key role in the ongoing investigations and the prosecution’s case.
Investigations are ongoing as prosecutors continue to gather evidence ahead of the next hearing date.
