MP for Klottey Korle constituency
Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Zanetor Rawlings has accused the government of paying lip service to the Accra Cleanest City vision as promised in 2016.
To Dr Rawlings, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has failed in fulfilling the vision in making Accra the cleanest city in Africa because of lack of will power.
She said she is fully convinced that the Akufo-Addo-led government won’t be able to achieve the dream by 2020.
Speaking on Citi FM, she said after almost three years of the promise, there had been no evidence in fulfilling the vision.

“Not from where I stand and not at this point in time. I don’t see the necessary things in place for this to happen. You are still seeing rubbish everywhere. The amount of rubbish left behind when the water receded after the flooding [on Sunday] was quite phenomenal.
“The onset of the rains and its accompanying flooding makes it crystal clear that the President’s ambitious vision is nothing but a facade. The almost three-year-old agenda smacks of failure as the city continues to struggle to manage waste,” she added.

Dr Rawlings added: “We are in our third year since that promise was made. Accra is nowhere near becoming the cleanest city in West Africa, let alone on the continent.”
To her, it is about time the Akufo-Addo-led administration backed their words with actions in order to achieve the vision.
“In other countries where they decided to do what we are saying, they took certain actions that were very brave. Some decided to ban plastics, some decided to allow a particular kind of plastic. So, you need to really take some courageous decision. The political will must be backed by actions; not just saying and going,” she added.
