Embattled Ghanaian socialite, Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has appeared before the Accra High Court as his legal team moves to overturn a lower court decision that paved the way for his extradition to the United States.

His lawyers filed a certiorari application seeking to quash a ruling by the Gbese District Court which authorised his extradition in connection with ongoing criminal proceedings in the US.

Kumi is facing charges of wire fraud and money laundering, linked to an alleged romance scam network accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than $8 million.

The case drew renewed public attention after he was sighted at the court as proceedings continued on the legal challenge to the extradition order.

The court is expected to determine whether the lower court acted within jurisdiction in granting the extradition order.

The matter has been adjourned to June 16, 2026, for further hearing.

However, after the latest development at the High Court, Abu Trica refused to make any public statement while the substantive application is being heard.
