Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has appealed to the Nigerian government to investigate allegations of attacks on properties belonging to Ghanaian business magnate Sir Sam Jonah.
The Minister made the request when he received the letters of credence from Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde, during a meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Mr Ablakwa urged the envoy to look into concerns surrounding Sir Sam Jonah’s Mobus Properties in Nigeria, stressing that protecting investments across borders is essential to maintaining investor confidence and deepening economic cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria.
He noted that ensuring the safety of businesses and investments plays a critical role in promoting stronger trade and economic ties between the two countries.
In response, the Nigerian High Commissioner-designate assured the Minister that he would take up the matter with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the concerns raised.
The meeting also touched on ways to enhance economic collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria, particularly through increased cross-border trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mr Ablakwa called for the removal of barriers hindering trade between the two countries, saying improved cooperation would create more opportunities for businesses and strengthen regional economic growth.
He also encouraged Nigeria and other ECOWAS member states to support efforts towards the introduction of the ECO single currency, describing it as a key step towards improving regional trade and economic integration.
For his part, Mr Barde expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian government for the warm reception and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening the longstanding diplomatic and economic relationship between the two countries.
