The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has given financial clearance for the commencement of major construction works on the Samenya–New Town road in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, alongside the rehabilitation of the Ankobra Bridge.
The financial clearance marks a significant step towards the implementation of the two infrastructure projects, which are expected to improve road connectivity, facilitate transportation, and enhance economic activities within the municipality and surrounding communities.
The Samenya–New Town road is an important route for residents, motorists, traders, and other road users in the area, but the bad nature has become a headache for the Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toofey, chiefs, drivers, and the people.
The 25-kilometer stretch linking Samenye Barrier through Half-Assini to New Town at the Côte d’Ivoire border.
Its construction is expected to ease transportation challenges, improve access to essential services, and support the movement of goods and people within Jomoro and neighbouring communities.
Similarly, the planned rehabilitation of the Ankobra Bridge is expected to address infrastructure concerns associated with the bridge and improve the safety and efficiency of movement for commuters and commercial transport operators who depend on the route.

The two projects are particularly significant for communities whose livelihoods depend on farming, fishing, trading, and other economic activities that require reliable road infrastructure.
The financial clearance comes amid growing calls from residents for urgent investment in Jomoro’s road infrastructure.
In July 2026, residents appealed for improvements to the municipality’s road network, citing the effects of poor roads on transportation, access to healthcare, and economic activity.
The Ankobra Bridge has also attracted public concern over its deteriorating condition. In August 2026, residents called for urgent rehabilitation, warning that the bridge’s condition posed a potential danger to road users.
The completion of the financial clearance is therefore expected to raise hopes among residents and other stakeholders who have long called for improved transport infrastructure in the area.
