The Minister of Education has directed the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive follows an investigation by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni into the alleged misconduct at the school in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said the Minister had instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend Mr Abdulai pending a full investigation into the matter.
The Minister has also requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations into the allegations.
The Ministry described the matter as serious and stressed that alleged misconduct of such a nature would not be tolerated in any educational institution in the country.
It said parents and guardians entrusted their children to teachers with the expectation that they would protect and safeguard them rather than subject them to abuse.
The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reiterated their commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe environments for students.
