The Ministry of Education is set to hold an emergency meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) today, Monday, October 12, 2026, in a bid to resolve an ongoing strike and restore normal operations at affected tertiary institutions.
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for discussions among the parties to find a mutually acceptable solution to the dispute.
In a statement signed by its Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry appealed to all stakeholders to engage constructively, taking into consideration the disruption caused by the industrial action to students, university communities and the country at large.
The Ministry called on GAUA’s leadership to use the meeting as an opportunity to advance meaningful discussions and work with the relevant stakeholders towards ending the impasse.
It also reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing labour-related concerns through established negotiation channels and sustained dialogue.
The Ministry expressed optimism that the engagement would yield a positive outcome and facilitate the resumption of normal academic and administrative activities at the affected institutions.
However, the statement did not specify the grievances that led to the strike or indicate the proposals expected to be discussed at the meeting.
The outcome of the talks is expected to be crucial to efforts to resolve the dispute and restore normal operations at the affected tertiary institutions.
