Interim Asante Kotoko head coach Hamza Obeng has described his side’s 1-0 defeat by Swedru All Blacks as painful, admitting that his players struggled to control possession during their Ghana Premier League encounter.
The Porcupine Warriors suffered the setback at the Swedru Stadium on Saturday in their Matchday Six fixture of the 2026/27 season.
After a goalless first half, the hosts secured all three points through Wiafe Darkwah’s late penalty.
The spot-kick was awarded after Kotoko left-back Patrick Asiedu fouled Baah Junior inside the penalty area, allowing Darkwah to step up and convert from 12 yards.
Speaking after the match, Obeng expressed his disappointment with the result but promised to address the team’s shortcomings.
“It’s a very painful defeat, and I will say we will go back to the boardroom and correct our mistakes. Today we couldn’t get much control with our buildup. We kept losing the ball in our build-up, and that didn’t help us,” he said.
The interim coach urged his players to learn from the defeat and focus on improving their performance in subsequent matches.
“It’s part of the game, so we will take it in good faith, work on the negatives, build on the positives, and we will take it from there,” he added.
The defeat leaves Asante Kotoko ninth in the Ghana Premier League standings as they seek to regain momentum in the competition.
Kotoko will look to bounce back when they host Young Apostles at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in their Matchday Seven fixture.
