The Chiefs, Queenmothers, elders and people of Gomoa Wassa and the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area are set to celebrate a major traditional and community development milestone on October 17, 2026, with a grand coronation and outdooring ceremony for eight chiefs and their respective queenmothers.
The colourful ceremony, which is being held under the theme “Unity, Peace and Development – Together We Develop Gomoa Wassah,” is expected to bring together traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, residents and citizens from across the region and beyond.
The event will feature the traditional carrying in of palanquins, followed by the coronation and official outdooring of the eight chiefs and their queenmothers.
Beyond the royal pageantry, the celebration is also expected to highlight the strong connection between traditional leadership and community development, with the inauguration of two newly constructed palaces and an ultramodern community centre forming part of the day’s activities.
The development projects are seen as important additions to the traditional area and are expected to provide improved facilities for traditional administration, community engagements and social activities.
The principal traditional leaders associated with the celebration include Nana Kow Arkoh Ansah V Odzikro, Chief of Gomoa Wassah and Nkonsuhene of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area; Nana Ama Oduma Atta LLL, Queenmother of Gomoa Wassa and Nkonsonhemaa of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council; Nana Ekua Korankyewa Etuawa I, Gyaasehemaa of Gomoa Wassah and Nymdzeekesehemaa of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area; and Nana Kwesi Essel Okyeahene I, Gyaasehene of Gomoa Wassah and Nyimdzee Kesehene of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area.
Their involvement reflects the collective responsibility of the traditional leadership in promoting peace, unity and development within the area.
The ceremony will also attract a number of prominent traditional rulers, including Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VII, President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs; Osagyefo Kwame Akonu, Vice President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs; Obirifo Ahunu Ahor Ankobea II, President of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area; Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhene of Abeamze Traditional Area; Daasebre Atta Kwaku Egyir Opuisi VII, Chief of Gomoa Tarkwa; and Nana Apinkra Awuah, Chief of Kotromponieafre in the Ashanti Region.
Government and political leaders expected at the ceremony include Dr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff and Very Special Guest; Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, Central Regional Minister; Eric Opoku, Member of Parliament and Minister for Agriculture; Richard Gyan Mensah, MP and Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition; Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South and former Deputy Minister for Education; and Alexander Kwawdo Agyare, MP for Kade Constituency.

The gathering is expected to provide an opportunity for the people to celebrate their rich cultural heritage while strengthening the bonds between traditional authorities, government and the wider community.
The theme of the event places particular emphasis on unity, peace and development—three principles regarded as essential to the progress of the traditional area.
For the people of Gomoa Wassa and Gomoa Assin, the coronation and outdooring will therefore be more than a celebration of new traditional leadership. It will also be an occasion to reflect on the area’s development aspirations and the collective responsibility required to achieve them.
As the chiefs and queenmothers are formally presented to the public, the occasion is expected to usher in a renewed spirit of cooperation and commitment to the advancement of the communities.
With tradition, leadership and development taking centre stage, October 17 is set to be a landmark day for Gomoa Wassah, bringing together generations to celebrate the past, honour the present and look ahead to a more peaceful and prosperous future.
