Tima Kumkum has revisited comments she made in a previous interview about her first marriage, admitting that she “goofed” and was too young and naive to fully understand the decision she was making at the time.
The media personality had previously revealed in an interview on Delay Show that she decided to marry her ex-husband partly to prove to a friend who had slept with her former partner that she was not affected by the betrayal.
She explained that she wanted them to see that the cheating had not broken her and that she had moved on.
But years after making that revelation, Tima has returned to the subject to provide context and correct the narrative surrounding the decision during her ‘Be Inspired by Tima’ Women’s Conference.
According to her, she was only about 20 years old when she met her first husband and was dealing with the pain of a broken relationship.
Looking back, she admits that she did not handle that pain well.
“I was young, naive and stupid,” she said, acknowledging that the decision was one she would approach very differently today.
Tima explained that she was not initially in love with the man she married. Although love eventually developed between them, she now recognises that the motivation behind entering the marriage was not the healthiest.
She wants women going through heartbreak to learn from her experience rather than make major life decisions simply to prove to anyone else that they are unaffected.
Tima believes a woman coming out of a painful relationship needs time to process what she has been through before opening another chapter of her life.
“When you are leaving a bad relationship, you don’t go to the other one because you want the other one to like you. Heal before you enter into another relationship,” she said.
