The Headteacher of Abamkrom Islamic Basic School in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region, Rufai Issah, has appealed to the government and benevolent individuals to support the school with computers and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools.
He said while the school had received a major boost through the provision of a new classroom block, the lack of adequate ICT equipment remained a challenge that needed urgent attention.
According to Mr Issah, access to computers and other digital tools would enhance teaching and learning while giving pupils the opportunity to develop practical digital skills from an early age.
He said the availability of ICT facilities would also enable pupils to explore their creativity, develop their ideas and better prepare themselves for a world increasingly driven by technology.
Mr Issah made the appeal when the Ebro and Me Boafo Foundation, as part of its philanthropic activities, handed over a newly constructed six-unit classroom block and other supporting facilities to the school.
He commended the foundation for the gesture, describing the new facilities as a significant intervention that would provide pupils and teachers with a safer and more conducive environment for academic work.
However, he noted that the school needed further support, particularly in the area of ICT, to complement the new infrastructure and provide pupils with a more complete learning experience.
The Executive Director of the Me Boafo Foundation and philanthropist, Dr Emmanuel Obiri Addo, explained that the intervention was prompted by the poor condition of the school’s previous facilities.
He said the old structure had deteriorated to the point where a new building was necessary to provide pupils with a safe and suitable environment for teaching and learning.
As part of the foundation’s philanthropic efforts, it therefore constructed and handed over the six-unit classroom block together with other supporting facilities to the school.
Dr Obiri Addo urged the pupils to take advantage of the improved learning environment, study hard and make good use of the facilities provided for them.
Some dignitaries who attended the handover ceremony also expressed their excitement about the transformation at the school.
They encouraged the pupils to take their education seriously, remain focused on their studies and make proper use of the new facilities.
They further called on other organisations and individuals to support the school with the resources it still needs, particularly ICT equipment, to help create more opportunities for the pupils and improve their learning outcomes.
