Ghanaian musician Fameye chose a different kind of celebration for his birthday this year, spending the day with children at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Gomoa Fetteh.
Rather than marking the occasion with a typical birthday celebration, the ‘Nothing I Get’ hitmaker chose to share the day with children whose experiences resonated deeply with his own story.
Fameye, who lost his parents while growing up, said spending time with the children was particularly meaningful because he understands what it feels like to grow up without a parent’s embrace.
“I didn’t celebrate my birthday by asking for more. I celebrated by giving love to children who, like me, know what it means to grow up without a parent’s embrace,” he said.
The musician said he saw a part of his own journey in the children and was grateful for how far he had come despite the loss he experienced growing up.
“My story started with loss, but God gave me the strength to keep going, and today I’m grateful for how far He has brought me,” he added.
During the visit, Fameye shared moments of love, smiles and companionship with the children, using his birthday as an opportunity to remind them that they are valued and remembered.
He said his wish was for children who feel alone to find love, hope and reasons to smile.
Fameye also expressed gratitude to Pizza Man Chicken Man and Creme Russian Bakery for supporting the birthday initiative and helping make the visit possible.
For the musician, the celebration was less about receiving gifts and more about giving back, turning a personal milestone into a moment of connection with children whose stories share a painful thread with his own.
