Dancehall king Shatta Wale picked up his microphone to drop some bars, this time not in a studio, but before an august crowd at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
He traded his usual musical performance for a conversation about success and the mindset behind his journey.
Known for his flamboyant persona, Shatta Wale urged the students to look beyond the visible rewards of his success and pay attention to the ideas and vision that have shaped his career.
He encouraged them to picture the future they want and work deliberately towards it, noting that every major achievement begins with an idea.
The artiste also advised the students not to make money the sole target of their ambitions.
“Don’t copy my lifestyle, copy my thinking. Attract success with success. Don’t waste money chasing money. Most importantly, be versatile; evolve as the world does. Believe in what you envision, because turning dreams into reality begins in the mind.”
Shatta Wale also advised students to be mindful of their brands and continually assess their relevance and make the necessary adjustments to remain competitive.
Shatta Wale’s appearance was part of lineup for UPSA 1000 & Entrepreneurship Conference, following an invitation from Vice Chancellor Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor.
The Vice Chancellor had specifically sought the musician’s perspective on entrepreneurship, branding and his experience of using the internet to market his music and build a successful career.
For Shatta Wale, the session offered an opportunity to turn his years in the entertainment industry into practical lessons for a younger generation.
