Legendary Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs has died at the age of 84, bringing to an end a remarkable career spanning several decades in Nigeria’s film and television industry.
The veteran actor’s family announced his death in a statement on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, describing him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
The family said his death marked the end of a life that was well lived and dedicated to his craft.
“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.
The family also appealed to the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect their privacy as they mourn their loss.
“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
Olu Jacobs was widely celebrated for his contributions to African cinema and television, having built an illustrious career through numerous roles in Nigerian and international productions.
His passing marks the loss of one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran actors, whose career spanned generations of audiences.
