Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has questioned whether newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students should be required to provide all the items listed on their school prospectuses.
In a post on X, the legislator described the prospectus as a source of concern for parents, particularly because of the financial demands associated with preparing students for school.
He said the cost burden is often shifted to Members of Parliament (MPs), who are expected to support constituents with such expenses every year.
“Honestly, must a fresh SHS Student present all these listed items to school as a freshman or woman?
This heavily-laden but compulsory prospectus have become a major source of bother to parents as the financial burden is offloaded onto MPs every year.”
His comments come amid discussions about the financial pressures families face when preparing children for admission into SHS, including the cost of items listed as requirements by schools.
