A driver who discharged concrete onto the Madina-Adenta Highway has been convicted and fined by the Madina District Magistrate Court.
The driver, Solomon Tawiah, pleaded guilty to three offences under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2519), and was subsequently sentenced by the court.
The offences include placing construction materials on a road, causing danger to a road user, and obstructing an intersection or pedestrian crossing.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026, when a Mercedes-Benz concrete mixer truck belonging to Betonsa Ghana Limited, with registration number GE 4891-14, discharged concrete onto the main Madina-Adenta Highway.
The incident happened about 100 metres from the Zongo Junction Traffic Light, after which the driver allegedly left the scene.
In a statement signed by the Accra Regional Head of Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Police said the Madina Divisional Police Command received information about the incident and immediately dispatched personnel from its Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to the location.
The Police subsequently commenced investigations to identify the driver and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Further enquiries led investigators to the premises of Betonsa Ghana Limited at Spintex, where the company’s Transport Manager was engaged on the matter.
The driver was later brought to the Police on Tuesday, September 8, by the Transport Manager and was subsequently charged with the three offences.
Court imposes consecutive fines
The Madina District Magistrate Court imposed a fine of 25 penalty units on each of the three counts, with the sentences to run consecutively.
The Police said Mr Tawiah has since paid the fines.
The conviction comes as authorities continue to caution drivers and transport operators against actions that could endanger other road users or obstruct the free movement of traffic on major highways.
The Madina Divisional Police Command commended members of the public whose information assisted the Police in responding to the incident and advancing investigations.
The Command also urged drivers and transport operators to exercise greater caution when carrying out activities on public roads, stressing that negligence or improper handling of construction materials can pose serious risks to motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
