A sea of people filled parts of Agona Nkwanta on Saturday as the “Walk with Ahanta Pele” attracted a massive turnout for a day of fitness, entertainment, and community interaction.
The initiative, led by journalist Samuel Kojo Brace, popularly known as Ahanta Pele, brought together residents of Ahanta West alongside participants who travelled from Accra and other parts of the country.
Unlike a conventional fitness programme held at a single location, the event took participants through the streets of the town. The walk commenced from Aboadi, passed through Agona Fie and ended at the forecourt of Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High Technical School.
The gathering remained lively throughout the exercise, with music and interaction accompanying the walk. Participants later joined an aerobics session at the school to bring the day’s activities to a close.
The event attracted a strong presence from the political community. Members of the NPP Ahanta West Constituency executive attended in their various capacities, including the First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Organizer, Deputy Organizer, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Women’s Organizer, Deputy Women’s Organizer, Nasara Coordinator and Deputy Nasara Coordinator.
The Sekondi Constituency was also represented by its Chairman, Mr. Percy Morgue Ansah, and Youth Organizer, Mr. Ben Hector Brooklyn. Mr. Goodfellow Odei, a member of the NPP Communications Team, was among the other political figures at the gathering.
There was also significant representation from the media fraternity. Multimedia Group personalities Lawyer Osei Bonsu, popularly known as O.B., host of Ekosii Sen, and Dominic Kissi travelled to Ahanta West to lend their support to their colleague.
The presence of the media personalities, together with the participation of political figures and residents from different parts of the country, gave the event a broader public dimension beyond its stated focus on fitness.
For many participants, the occasion offered an opportunity to exercise while also reconnecting with friends, colleagues and other members of the Ahanta community. The large gathering further demonstrated the ability of community based initiatives to bring people together around a common activity.
But as the crowd dispersed after the exercise, attention also turned to a question that has increasingly followed Samuel Kojo Brace in recent times: what next for Ahanta Pele?
His name has featured prominently in conversations about a possible bid for the Ahanta West parliamentary seat. While the journalist has yet to publicly declare his intention to contest the position, expectations are mounting that he could soon make his position known.
The political significance of the latest gathering therefore remains a subject of discussion, particularly given the presence of several party officials and the size of the crowd that responded to the initiative.
For now, however, the focus remains on the success of the walk, which transformed the streets of Agona Nkwanta into a centre of fitness, social interaction and community activity, while adding another layer to the growing public interest in Samuel Kojo Brace’s future.
