The Christian Council of Ghana has set up a technical committee to explore possible solutions to the stalled National Cathedral project.
The committee, which will include representatives from various Christian denominations and groups, has been given one month to come up with a practical funding model and make recommendations on the location and other outstanding matters concerning the project.
Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, disclosed this after a closed-door meeting with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He said the committee’s recommendations would be submitted to President John Mahama to help guide decisions on the future of the project.
“Under this council, within a month, we will discuss issues relating to the practical intervention of funding, location and other things pertinent to the National Cathedral. So, we will within the month present the recommendations and expect the necessary decisions to be taken,” he said.
The Council has also called for the speedy completion of the forensic audit into the National Cathedral project.
It said the audit findings would provide Christian leaders with a clearer understanding of the situation and help them determine the appropriate steps to take.
The National Cathedral was announced in 2017 by then-President Nana Akufo-Addo as a national Christian worship and heritage centre. It was commissioned in 2018, while groundbreaking ceremonies were held in 2019.
However, the project has remained incomplete due to funding and construction challenges, prompting renewed calls for clarity on its financing, management and future.
