Member of Parliament for the Akrofuom Constituency, Joseph Azumah, has directed persons allegedly engaged in illegal mining along the Tutuka–Akrofuom Road to vacate their sites immediately.
The directive follows concerns that mining activities along the stretch between Ahansoyewodea and Akrofuom are obstructing the road contractor and could delay the completion of the project.
In a statement issued by his office, the MP warned that no individual or group would be allowed to interfere with the road construction works or place personal interests ahead of the safety and development needs of residents and road users.
He described the activities along the affected corridor as a security concern, noting that they could endanger contractors, road workers and motorists using the road.
The MP further warned that persons who disregard the directive and are arrested should not expect political, traditional or personal intervention.
Meanwhile, some persons allegedly involved in the activities have been apprehended by the Obuasi Municipal Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police operation was carried out in collaboration with the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive and the Akrofuom District Chief Executive.
Mr Azumah commended the police for their swift intervention and urged security agencies to sustain enforcement efforts to protect the road project and ensure the safety of people working and travelling within the area.
The MP also cautioned motorists to exercise extreme care as construction works continue along the Tutuka–Akrofuom Road.
Motorists have been advised to reduce their speed, observe temporary diversions and watch out for construction workers, heavy machinery and changing road conditions.
Mr Azumah reaffirmed his commitment to the completion of the road and said he would continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure that activities capable of delaying or undermining the project are addressed.
