The National Service Authority (NSA) has warned the public against a fraudulent letter circulating on social media and purporting to introduce validation fees and other payments for national service personnel.
The Authority said the letter, which claims that national service personnel should pay up to GH¢50 for validation and an additional GH¢10 district office management contribution, is fake and did not originate from the NSA.
According to the NSA, neither the validation fee nor the purported district office contribution has been authorised under the claims contained in the circulating document.
The fraudulent letter, addressed to “National Service Personnels”, claims that no amount exceeding GH¢50 should be paid for validation and directs subvented personnel to pay an additional GH¢10 to district managers to support office management and administrative activities.
It further claims that the arrangement is necessary because no separate funds would be provided to district offices and purports to state that the directive takes effect on November 2.
The NSA, however, said the document is not an official communication and urged the public not to make any payments or provide personal information based on its contents.
The Authority noted that the format, language, content and purported signature on the letter do not conform to its official communication.
It also said no such notice or directive had been issued through its official website or verified social media platforms, adding that it had not authorised any individual or third party to collect validation fees on its behalf under the purported directive.
The NSA has therefore advised prospective and current national service personnel to verify information concerning registration, validation, payments and other official activities through its recognised communication channels before taking any action.
The public has also been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious communications or fraudulent activities claiming to be from the Authority.
The NSA cautioned: “Do not be deceived. Verify before you trust, pay, or share.”
