New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary hopeful, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has touted his experience, competence and long-standing service to the party, saying he is best placed to help the NPP recapture power if elected.
Mr Antwi described himself as a firm, fair and incorruptible politician with an unblemished record spanning more than two decades in the NPP.
“I am competent, unblemished, fair, firm and incorruptible. Above all, I am not a pushover. I have what it takes to help the NPP recapture power if given the nod,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Antwi said his age and experience give him an advantage over the other contenders in the race.
“I am older than the rest of the contestants, so logically, I am the most experienced. I am also more grounded in the traditions of the party,” he stated.
According to him, he has served at almost every level of the NPP and has accumulated extensive experience in party organisation and electoral campaigns.
“I have the experience. I know what it takes for the party to win power with my experiential knowledge. I have been involved in three presidential campaigns. I have served at almost all levels of the party,” he said.
Mr Antwi said he has spent 21 years at the frontline of NPP politics without any blemish, arguing that his long service has given him a deep understanding of the party’s history, traditions and challenges.
“I have 21 years of an unblemished record in the frontline of NPP politics. I am very grounded. I know the party’s struggles,” he said.
He also pointed to his eight-year tenure in Parliament as another key source of experience, noting that none of his opponents in the current contest has had a similar parliamentary background.
“I have served in Parliament for eight years. None of my opponents have such experience,” he stated.
Mr Antwi said the NPP’s current circumstances require a General Secretary who understands the party’s structures and can mobilise its supporters effectively ahead of the 2028 elections.
“If we want a qualified person at this stage of the party’s growth, I don’t think you can look beyond me,” he said.
He added that his background from one of the NPP’s traditional strongholds gives him an understanding of what is required to motivate party supporters to turn out and vote.
“I come from the party’s stronghold, so anything to make the party supporters go out and vote, I know what it takes,” he stated.
Mr Antwi further described himself as a fair, firm and honest leader who has risen through the ranks of the party and believes his journey has prepared him for the General Secretary position.
“I also think I am a very fair, firm and honest person. I believe I am also very competent. I have risen through the ranks. All these are preparing me for this day,” he said.
He expressed confidence that his experience and leadership qualities would enable him to help rebuild the NPP and lead the party towards victory in the 2028 general elections.
