The Ghana Police Service has directed owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks to suspend their operations on roads within Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The directive follows an engagement between the Police and owners and operators of transit mixer trucks on road safety and compliance with road traffic regulations.
The meeting, held on Thursday, August 27, was led by the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat.
The Police said the temporary restriction was necessary to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of road surfaces affected by concrete and other materials from mixer trucks.
Concerns were raised at the meeting about the spillage of concrete and other materials on roads by the trucks, which stakeholders said obstruct traffic, create hazards for motorists and other road users, and contribute to damage to road surfaces.
Operators were consequently urged to ensure that concrete or other materials are not discharged or left on roads during transportation and other operations.
According to the Police, concrete mixer trucks will not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema during the three-day suspension period.
The Service warned that any vehicle found operating in breach of the directive would be subjected to appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.
The engagement brought together representatives of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks.
The Police said the directive forms part of efforts to address road safety concerns and protect road infrastructure.
