Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada has withdrawn from the race for the position of National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement dated Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Ms Lomokie said the decision followed deep reflection, prayer, consultations and careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her decision.
She said although the decision to step away from the contest was difficult, she remained grateful to the women, friends, colleagues, delegates and supporters who believed in her vision and supported her throughout the campaign.
“I entered this race with genuine conviction, a clear vision and an unwavering belief in what our women can achieve when given the opportunity, support and leadership they deserve,” she said.
Ms Lomokie also expressed appreciation to her campaign team for standing by her and contributing to the journey.
According to her, although the campaign would not continue to its conclusion, she hoped the relationships and bonds developed during the period would endure.
She stressed that her decision to withdraw from the contest did not mean she was abandoning her commitment to the empowerment of women, the growth of the NPP or the development of Ghana.
“Stepping back from the contest does not mean stepping away from the cause. My commitment to the empowerment of women, the growth of our Party and the advancement of Ghana remains as strong as ever,” she stated.
Ms Lomokie said leadership sometimes required knowing when to move forward and, at other times, having the wisdom and courage to pause.
She said she was leaving the contest with gratitude, dignity and valuable lessons while wishing all the remaining candidates well.
Ms Lomokie further called on party members to place the broader interests of the NPP above individual ambitions and work towards the party’s unity, renewal and victory.
“I wish every candidate well and pray that, above all personal interests, we will remember the greater purpose: the unity, renewal and victory of the New Patriotic Party,” she said.
She concluded by indicating that her political journey would continue despite her withdrawal from the race.
“My journey continues. My convictions remain. And there is still much work to be done,” she added.
