The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), has commenced the second phase of a skills training programme aimed at empowering young people and women in the constituency.
The three-day programme, which began on Monday, August 24, 2026, and ends on Wednesday, August 26, is being held in Half Assini, the municipal capital of the Jomoro Municipality.
A total of 150 participants are benefiting from the initiative, which focuses on four key areas: fruit juice processing, beads making, livestock farming and fish farming.
The areas were selected to equip participants with practical entrepreneurial and agricultural skills that can be transformed into sustainable businesses and sources of income.
Participants are receiving hands-on training designed to provide them with practical knowledge that can be applied beyond the classroom.
The fruit juice processing and beads-making components are expected to equip beneficiaries with skills in value addition and creative enterprise, while the livestock and fish farming sessions seek to strengthen their capacity in agricultural production.
The programme forms part of efforts by Madam Affo-Toffey and the GEA to promote economic empowerment through skills development and entrepreneurship, particularly among women and young people.
Speaking on the initiative, Godwin Alluekeh, Personal Assistant to Madam Affo-Toffey and coordinator of the programme, said equipping young people and women with employable and entrepreneurial skills was critical to addressing unemployment and improving household incomes in the municipality.
He said the initiative also sought to encourage beneficiaries to take advantage of local resources and opportunities to establish small businesses rather than rely solely on limited formal employment opportunities.
For many of the beneficiaries, the training provides an opportunity to acquire skills that could serve as a foundation for self-employment and further business development.
The second phase builds on the partnership between the Jomoro MP and the Ghana Enterprises Agency to promote skills acquisition and economic empowerment in the constituency.
The organisers expressed hope that beneficiaries would put the skills acquired into practice, create employment opportunities for themselves and others, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Jomoro Municipality.
