Residents of Abokobi-Pantang are appealing to authorities and contractors working on a road project in the area to take urgent measures to control excessive dust generated by the construction.

The road project, which is intended to reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion, has become a source of concern for residents and traders who say the dust is negatively affecting their health and businesses.

One of the affected residents, Arthur Bernice, 42, a fried-fish seller, said the dust has aggravated her asthma and sometimes makes it difficult for her to breathe whenever she goes to the roadside to sell.

According to her, the situation has made it increasingly difficult to carry out her daily business, as she is frequently exposed to dust from vehicles and ongoing construction activities.

A phone repairer in the community also complained that the dust is having a negative impact on his work and the health of other residents in the area.

While residents acknowledge the importance of the road project in improving transportation and reducing accidents, they are calling on the contractors to regularly water the dusty sections of the road and adopt other measures to minimize the amount of dust released into the environment.

Residents say such measures would help protect their health while allowing the road project to continue without causing unnecessary hardship to people living and working along the route.

They are therefore urging the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that adequate dust-control measures are put in place until the construction is completed.
