Bright Asadu, Chief Executive Officer of BAM Auto Care and nephew of the Wioso Hene, Nana Ofori, has been enstooled as the new Wioso Mawere Hene.

He has been given the stool name Nana Asadu Kukrubuor I in recognition of his contribution to the development of the community and his commitment to the welfare of its people.

The colourful enstoolment ceremony took place from Thursday, August 13 to Sunday, August 16, 2026, with a number of activities bringing together traditional leaders, royals, the youth and residents of Wioso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana-West Africa.

Enstoolment rites

The process began on Thursday at the Wioso Palace, where Bright Asadu was presented to the royals gathered for the ceremony.

The royals were given the opportunity to speak about him and share their views on his suitability for the position. They also voted to formally accept his selection as the new Wioso Mawere Hene.

Before he took the stool, the elders and royals advised him on the responsibilities that came with his new position and urged him to respect the traditions of the land and remain committed to his people.

Bright Asadu was then covered with traditional powder and handed the ceremonial sword. He reintroduced himself and took the oath to uphold the customs of the land, perform his duties faithfully and be available to the community whenever his services were needed.

He was subsequently carried shoulder-high by royal servants from the palace and taken through the streets of Wioso.

The procession, which went through the community twice, was accompanied by kete drummers and dancers, as residents came out to witness and celebrate the occasion.

After the procession, Nana Asadu Kukrubu I returned to the palace, where he paid his respects to the royals and elders.

A celebration was later held at his family house to officially mark the occasion.

Youth sports gala

The enstoolment celebrations continued on Saturday, August 15, with a mini sports gala at the Wioso Park.

The event was organised to bring the youth together and also provide an opportunity to identify young sporting talents in the community.

At the end of the competition, the winning teams received medals, a trophy and cash prizes to support their teams.

Other participants were also presented with medals and cash prizes for taking part in the competition.

Clean-up exercise

On Sunday morning, Nana Asadu Kukrubu I joined the youth and other residents for a float and clean-up exercise through the community.

The exercise saw participants clean and tidy various parts of Wioso as part of efforts to promote sanitation and encourage residents to take responsibility for their surroundings.

Breakfast was served to participants after the exercise, after which they returned home to prepare for the main durbar later in the day.

Grand durbar

The grand durbar was held at about 2 p.m. on Sunday and brought together the royals, elders, community members and well-wishers.

Addressing the gathering, Nana Asadu Kukrubo I outlined his vision for Wioso and said he was committed to working with the traditional authorities, the youth and other stakeholders to promote the development of the community.

Nana also spoke about some of the projects he hoped to pursue during his tenure.

Funds were subsequently raised towards some planned community development projects.

The gathering later moved from the durbar grounds to the family house of the Wioso Mawere Hene, where food and drinks were served.

Nana Asadu Kukrubo I also took the opportunity to interact with community members and listen to their concerns, expectations and ideas for the development of Wioso.

The four-day celebration ended on a positive note, combining traditional rites with activities aimed at promoting unity, youth development, sanitation and community development.
