Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Officer Paul Yandoh has revealed how he sneaked out of the party’s regional election grounds after realising that he was losing the contest for Regional Secretary.

Mr Yandoh said he feared the embarrassment of remaining at the venue after the results showed that his campaign was not doing well, prompting him to find a way to leave before the final declaration.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he said the presence of police officers at the venue made it difficult for candidates and supporters to leave freely once the counting process had begun.

“When they started counting and I realised it wasn’t going well, I was looking for a way to sneak out. The police were also surrounding there; if you are not fast, they won’t allow you to leave the centre, meaning the embarrassment will catch you there,” he said.

Mr Yandoh said he eventually told some people at the venue that he was going to the washroom but instead returned to his office and followed the remaining developments from there.

“So God was able to help me sneak out. Some were asking me where I was going,g and I told them I was going to the washroom and would be back. So I went back to the office and got updates later,” he said.

He also recounted the difficult moments he experienced at the election grounds, saying members of the Jama group he had brought to support his campaign complained of hunger while he was also emotionally distressed.

“Whilst we were at the ground, the Jama boys I brought told me they were hungry. Me, I was hot. Later, Boris B Farms brought me 12 chickens because he heard me talking about food,” he said.

Despite his defeat, Mr Yandoh said he accepted the delegates’ decision and pledged to support the newly elected regional executives.

“I respect the decision of the delegates and will support the elected executives, and we will all help them to collectively bring the party back to power,” he said.

However, Mr Yandoh expressed displeasure with the manner in which Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), had been mocking him on social media following the election.

He said the Regional Minister should have allowed him time to recover from the defeat before making jokes about his loss.

“You see Amoakohene teasing me about my loss. He should at least have waited for me to heal, but the same day he was trolling me,” he said.

Mr Yandoh cautioned Dr Amoakohene against facing a similar political setback, saying he would respond strongly if the minister ever lost an election.

“He should pray that nothing happens to him. He will leave the region. What he is doing on social media, like I am the only one who lost; I wasn’t the only one. Why is he laughing at only me?” he asked.

“I will troll him more than what he is doing to me now if he loses an election,” he added.

Mr Yandoh placed third in the NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary election with 105 votes. Francis Adomako won the contest with 492 votes, while Michael Amoah Awuku finished second with 331 votes.
