Ghanaian pastor Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, who is accused of allegedly defrauding women through romance scams, has been remanded for another two weeks after previously being denied bail.
Kwarteng appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as Police investigations into the allegations continue.
He is accused of allegedly using his identity as a pastor to establish romantic relationships with several women, promising some of them marriage and allegedly using their trust to obtain money and intimate materials.
Police investigations indicate that Kwarteng operated an online church on Instagram and allegedly told some women that he had received a divine revelation that they were destined to become his wives.
Investigators allege that he went as far as meeting the families of some victims and presenting promise rings to reinforce the impression that he intended to marry them.
According to the Police, Kwarteng allegedly obtained intimate images from some of the women after gaining their confidence and subsequently threatened or blackmailed them with the materials to demand money.
He is also accused of introducing some victims to a purported vehicle tyre business, allegedly persuading them to invest thousands of dollars in the importation, shipping and clearance of tyre containers before allegedly cutting off communication.
Police say at least seven victims have so far been identified, with the alleged offences dating back to 2021.
Kwarteng and his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, are facing charges including conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretences and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
While Kwarteng was previously denied bail and remanded into Police custody, his wife was granted bail.
Following his latest appearance, the court ordered that Kwarteng remain in custody for another two weeks, with the case adjourned as investigators continue their work.
Kwarteng was seen leaving the court premises with his wife after the proceedings.
