The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student of the school.
According to the GES, it has received a disturbing report concerning the alleged incident, which is said to have occurred while the student was receiving medical attention.
Preliminary information indicates that the student is a special needs student who is on medication and had reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the incident.
The two watchmen have since been arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation.
The GES said it had also interdicted the two suspects with immediate effect as investigations into the matter continue.
In a statement, the Service said appropriate sanctions would be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana, depending on the outcome of the investigations.
The GES has cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students.
It stressed that it would not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and welfare of students.
The Service further assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
