The Agotime Traditional Area in the Volta Region has come alive with colour and tradition as the people celebrate the annual Agotime Kente Festival.

The celebrations brought together chiefs, queen mothers, traditional leaders and people from communities across the Agotime area to showcase their heritage and celebrate the traditions that have shaped their identity over generations.

A major highlight of the festival is the grand durbar in Kpetoe, where traditional authorities and community members gather in colourful traditional regalia, with Kente taking centre stage.

The festival also features the Agotime Kente Weaving Competition, which brings together master weavers to demonstrate their skill, creativity and speed. Participants compete to produce intricate and innovative Kente designs, with the best artisan earning recognition for their craftsmanship.

Beyond the colourful displays, the festival also provides an opportunity for the Agotime people to reconnect with their history.

As part of the celebrations, community members gathered at Afegame for Godigbe 2026, a significant traditional observance commemorating the journey and arrival of the Agotime people at their first settlement.

The occasion serves as a remembrance of the ancestors whose courage and sacrifices shaped the community, allowing successive generations to reconnect with their roots.

At Afegame, the people reflected on the journey of their forebears and the heritage passed down through generations, reinforcing the importance of preserving Agotime’s history and traditions for the future.

With its combination of Kente, traditional leadership, craftsmanship, music and ancestral remembrance, AgbamevÉ” Za continues to provide a platform for the Agotime people to celebrate where they come from while passing their cultural heritage on to the next generation.
