Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected claims by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that the institution has incurred losses, describing the allegation as false.
Mr Gyamfi said the claim was not supported by GoldBod’s audited financial statements for the 2025 financial year.
In a Facebook post on Monday, August 17, 2026, the GoldBod CEO cited the institution’s audited Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, as evidence that the organisation recorded significant surpluses.
According to him, page 16 of the report shows that GoldBod recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion for the financial year.

He stressed that the financial figures were contained in an audit report prepared and published by the Auditor-General.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this audit report was prepared and published by the Auditor-General of the Republic of Ghana. Facts are sacrosanct,” Mr Gyamfi stated.
His response follows comments by Mr Afenyo-Markin warning that GoldBod’s operations could develop into what he described as a “very big scandal.”
The Effutu Member of Parliament had also cautioned the management of GoldBod to exercise caution in its operations, claiming that there were aspects of the institution’s activities that were not publicly known.
Mr Gyamfi, however, dismissed the Minority Leader’s claims and challenged him to rely on the audited financial statements.
“The blatant lie being persistently peddled by Afenyo-Markin that the GoldBod has made losses, is only a figment of his hallucinatory imagination,” he said.
He maintained that the audited figures provided clear evidence of GoldBod’s financial position and urged the public to rely on the official financial records.
