Newly elected Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Robert Sarfo-Mensah, says residents of the region must reward the party with their votes in the 2028 general elections for its role in creating the Ahafo Region.
According to him, the creation of the region under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has brought greater administrative independence and accelerated development to the area.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Sarfo-Mensah said the people of Ahafo had for years pushed for their own region but only saw their dream become a reality under the NPP government.
“What I will say is that the NPP has dealt well with us. For a very long time, we wanted our own region and we tried for years, but we did not get it,” he said.
He noted that opinion leaders and traditional authorities had made several efforts and lobbied successive governments for the creation of the region.
“But when Nana Addo became President, within one year we got our region. So today, when they are sharing anything, we get our share because we are no longer under Brong Ahafo. We are now on our own,” he said.
Mr Sarfo-Mensah argued that the creation of the Ahafo Region had improved the distribution of development projects and government resources in the area.
“Today, when you look at the development going on here, it is happening very fast because we have our own region. We get things done for us quickly. If not for getting our own region, we would not have gotten some of these developments,” he said.
He explained that before the region was created, Ahafo formed part of the then Brong Ahafo Region, which had about 29 districts, making it difficult for the area to receive what he considered its fair share of development.
“When we were Brong Ahafo, it was about 29 districts, and we had only about six districts from Ahafo. So when development came for Brong Ahafo, we did not get enough of the share. But now that we are independent, we have seen widespread development in Ahafo,” he noted.
The newly elected chairman said the party would engage residents across the region to explain the NPP’s contribution to Ahafo’s development and encourage them to support the party in 2028.
“In the right time, we will have proper conversations with the people of Ahafo and tell them what they need to do. We will explain it to them and ask them to vote for the NPP because of what former President Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia did for us by giving us our own region,” he said.
He therefore called on residents to vote massively for the NPP in the 2028 elections.
“It will be important that we vote massively for the NPP in 2028,” he added.
New Ahafo NPP executives
Robert Sarfo-Mensah was elected Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP after securing 65 votes to defeat his contenders, Justice Appiah Antwi, who polled 56 votes, and Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, who obtained 35 votes.
Prof. Emmanuel Opoku Marfo was elected First Vice Chairman, while Nana Antwi Eric won the Regional Secretary position.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the NPP’s activities in the Ahafo Region as the party reorganises its structures and prepares for the 2028 general elections.
