Newly elected Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Robert Sarfo-Mensah, says the party’s minimum target for the 2028 general elections is to retain its four parliamentary seats and win at least one additional seat in the region.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Sarfo-Mensah said the NPP would not take the contest for the region’s parliamentary seats for granted but was confident that a united and well-organised party could improve its performance in 2028.

“Our minimum is that the four seats we have already, we will take them, and then we can fight and at least get five seats for 2028,” he said.

He acknowledged that the task would not be easy, particularly because the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has experienced politicians in the region.

“I won’t say it will be soft. Arguably, they are two of our most successful politicians from Ahafo, so I won’t say they are easy ” he noted.

He was referring to NDC MPs Collins Dauda and Eric Opoku, who he said had both previously lost elections.

“Hon. Collins Dauda and Eric Opoku have lost before, and so it’s not difficult. It is our work that will show,” he said.

Mr Sarfo-Mensah said the NPP’s strategy would focus on unity, effective communication and research-driven campaigning tailored to the needs of each constituency.

“If we bring togetherness and come together and explain our message well for the electorate to understand, localise our politics and communication well, and bring data-driven scientific research to add to it, I know we can win the 2028 election,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the new regional executive team, describing it as strong, experienced and reflective of the political dynamics across the region.

According to him, every constituency is represented in the new leadership, except Tano South, where no candidate was elected.

“When we meet and start making appointments, we have to make sure that what they also deserve, we get them, so we can balance leadership everywhere,” he said.

Mr Sarfo-Mensah said the team had committed members with the expertise and experience required to lead the party into the next election.

“We have committed people. My first vice is a professor, and the rest of the executives are educated, well prepared, experienced and well known. They know their stuff,” he stated.

“I have a very strong team, and I know the team we have and the togetherness we can all bring. We can come together and work,” he added.

He further said the commitment of the constituency executives would be critical to the NPP’s success.

“The constituencies are also committed, and so I know we can work well and ensure that we win victory in 2028,” he said.

New Ahafo NPP executives

Robert Sarfo-Mensah was elected Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP after securing 65 votes to defeat his contenders, Justice Appiah Antwi, who polled 56 votes, and Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, who obtained 35 votes.

Prof. Emmanuel Opoku Marfo was elected First Vice Chairman, while Nana Antwi Eric won the Regional Secretary position.

The newly elected executives are expected to lead the NPP’s activities in the Ahafo Region as the party reorganises its structures and prepares for the 2028 general elections.
