President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration has secured funding to complete 35 Agenda 111 hospital projects inherited from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
The President said the selected projects are at various stages of construction but have reached at least 70 per cent completion, making them a priority for completion this year.
Speaking during his tour of the Upper East Region, President Mahama said his government would not abandon viable projects initiated by previous administrations, stressing that governance must be treated as a continuous process.
“We are continuing the Agenda 111 hospitals. This year, we have selected 35 of them, 35 of them that have reached 70% completion and above. We have selected them across the country; we have allocations, funds are available to finish the 35,” he said.
According to President Mahama, funds will be released to contractors to enable them to return to the sites and complete the selected facilities before the end of 2026.
He explained that government would adopt a phased approach to completing the remaining Agenda 111 projects, with priority given to districts that currently lack adequate health facilities.
President Mahama said another batch of projects that have reached at least 50 per cent completion would be considered for completion in 2027.
“Next year, we are selecting another 20 that are 50% and above. But we are giving priority to districts that do not have health facilities, and so we are not abandoning the Agenda 111 Hospitals; we are going to continue and finish them,” he said.
He added that another 20 projects would be selected for completion in 2028.
The President said abandoning the partially completed hospitals would amount to wasting taxpayers’ money, particularly considering the significant resources already invested in the projects.
He stressed that completing the facilities would ensure that government’s investment under the Agenda 111 initiative delivers the intended benefits to Ghanaians.
The Agenda 111 programme was introduced under the Akufo-Addo administration to construct 111 hospitals across the country, particularly in districts without hospitals, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare.
