The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has denied allegations that it demolished the structure of Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC at the Aboabo Market as part of a recent market demolition exercise.
In a press statement dated August 13, 2026, the Assembly described the allegation as “fabricated, completely false and without basis.”
The Assembly said it has utmost respect for the judicial process and would not take any action that seeks to undermine or usurp the lawful authority of the court.
According to the Assembly, it engaged the Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC for about nine months ahead of the planned demolition exercise and gave all occupants of the market site adequate time to evacuate.
It, however, stated that the bank’s structure was not demolished when the exercise eventually took place in June and July 2026.
The Assembly explained that it had entered an appearance in a suit brought against it by the bank and, for that reason, would not act in a manner that could undermine the authority of the court.
It further stated that its standard procedure for demolition exercises requires adequate prior notice, with Assembly staff supervising the exercise and security services providing support.
The Assembly therefore said any purported demolition carried out outside those procedures could not be interpreted as having been undertaken by the Municipal Assembly.
It described the allegation as potentially a deliberate attempt to discredit the Assembly in the eyes of the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Assembly wishes to re-affirm its respect and recognition for the due process of law,” the statement said.
The reaction follows allegations linking the Assembly to the demolition of the Sekyedumasi Community Bank structure at the Aboabo Market amid ongoing concerns surrounding the market redevelopment and demolition exercise.
